One of the greatest experiences of my career was contributing to the work the Public Library Association did with the Gates Foundation to secure a legacy grant to forward the work of public libraries. It was on a wall at the Foundation Headquarters in Seattle where I first saw the African proverb, “If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go together.” My extended library family has taken me on journeys farther than I could have ever imagined and I am forever grateful.
